Open air summer special at Haus der Kulturen der Welt w/ Laurel Halo and Julie Reidy / Wednesday, 16.09.2020
We are delighted to invite you to our first open-air Kiezsalon on the beautiful HKW rooftop terrace. Taking place during the sunset hours, the show will feature electronic music mastermind Laurel Halo (Hyperdub/Honest Jon’s) and Berlin-based, Australian experimental guitarist Julia Reidy (Editions Mego/Black Truffle), both presenting exciting new material.
Laurel Halo, born 1985 in Detroit, is an electronic music composer, performing artist and DJ, based in Berlin. Since the release of her debut album ‚Quarantine‘ (2012) on the pioneering London label Hyperdub, she has established herself as a distinct innovative voice within electronic music. Drawing from a range of music lineages, her considered approach has enabled her to maintain a signature aesthetic across a stylistically diverse output, traversing pop, ambient, leftfield club, experimental electronica and film score. She has released on labels including Hyperdub, Honest Jon’s, Latency and Livity Sound.
Julia Reidy is a composer and improvisor from Sydney, Australia. She writes and performs original music using guitars, synthesised and recorded sound. She plays as a soloist and in projects such as SPOILER, Tennis of All Kinds and the Splitter Orchestra. She’s also appeared in various improvised music contexts and performed extensively throughout Europe, Australasia and North America. Having drawn acclaim for solo performances on 12-string acoustic guitar that bridge microtonality, American primitive stylings, and classic minimalism, Reidy’s recent releases have utilized an increasingly broad sonic palette, fleshing out guitar-based composition with electronics, field recordings, and heavily auto-tuned vocals.
